    Perfect timing

Have you ever had a friend call you or someone say something that’s exactly what you need to hear at that moment?  The perfect timing of it is amazing and shows you that not only are you loved and cared for but that God is watching over you.

We see an example of this in John 20 from verse 24.  Jesus had appeared to some of the disciples but Thomas had not been with them. Although they told Thomas they had met Jesus Thomas refused to believe it:

‘Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were and put my hand into his side I will not believe it.’

Sometimes it can be hard for us to dare to believe good news.  Thomas was just being real.  He had seen his beloved friend and master die in the most horrific way and couldn’t erase the image from his mind.  The cold facts stared him in the face despite the amazing story he was hearing from the disciples, so he voiced his doubts.  As Christians we are sometimes afraid to voice our doubts fearing they will reveal how unspiritual we are, but Jesus knows exactly how we are feeling and what we are thinking and loves us just the same.  ‘He said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, see my hands.  Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

Thomas said to Him, “My Lord and my God”’

Thomas became full of wonder.  This encounter brought him to a new level of faith and understanding that Jesus truly loved him with a love that hears and responds to all that is going on in his heart.  Jesus timing was perfect.  He allowed Thomas to feel and express his pain, confusion and doubt and then appeared and spoke to Thomas in such a way that his perspective was completely transformed.  He was awed and joy filled.

Do you need to know that same transformation in your thinking or feelings?  Jesus knows and is coming to you.  He may speak to you through a verse or open your eyes to the beauty around you.  Maybe He will use one of your friends to show you His love.  Yesterday I was feeling low because I’d had bad news the previous day about my hearing.  I went out for a coffee with a friend who knew nothing about the bad news.  Out of the blue she announced that God was prompting her to buy me a dressy dress and she whisked me off to Monsoon and bought me a lovely elegant dress.  I was overwhelmed!  It was perfect timing.  God’s love through this friend was perfectly off-setting the bad news.

Look out for those special moments and treasure them.  They are His transforming examples to you of the perfect timing of His love.
