    Hearing Eye: Issue 132

    Editorial

During recent months we have been experiencing in small measure some of the trauma and bloodshed which are daily occurrences in many of the world’s troubled places. Riots, destroyed buildings, accidental and deliberate killings, hatred, disorder, chaos, and accusations. Agitated politicians have chimed in almost daily with their contradictory or self-serving outbursts. Where does all this leave us as Christian people? Is God in control or not? The violence generated by the so-called Arab Spring is one thing, but violence in our green and pleasant land is thought to be something else altogether. But there can be no doubt that God’s people have always lived through times of uncertainty and stress (see 1 John 2:18). In our long history, far worse things have happened on our streets and in our fields than we have seen here in recent days. So let’s be encouraged and energised by St Paul’s wake up call: our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed (Rom 13:11).
