What we do
Open Ears encourages all who are isolated by hearing loss to fulfil their potential and find purpose and belonging. United by our shared experience of hearing loss, you do not need to be a person of faith to be welcomed and included at Open Ears, however, as an ecumenical Christian charity, we want to see people grow in their Christian lives, feel confident to take part in their local church and to have real fellowship with others in a similar position.
You are invited to join our Open Ears Fellowship Group on Facebook This is a closed group, i.e. not open to the public. All enquirers will need to submit a request and answer a few simple questions in order to join the group.
We keep up to date with our friends and members through a weekly e-send, ‘Open Ears Together’, personal anecdotes, joys, sorrows and prayer requests - and answers - are shared; subscribe here together@openears.org.uk
We’re also on social media! You can find us on:
These accounts are public, so feel free to take a look and stay connected.
At the heart of Open Ears is a love for God and for people, leading to a commitment to prayer. A confidential network of prayer support is available from the Open Ears Team. Please contact us if you would like us to pray for you at prayer@openears.org.uk
We also offer confidential pastoral care, and we would love to hear from you, especially if you are feeling isolated or lonely at this time. Just click on this link to email Marylin pastoral@openears.org.uk who will then contact you. Marylin is happy to arrange a Zoom call with you, using Live transcription, or to correspond by email or letter as we are unable to visit in person.
We organise various online events throughout the year; mini conferences have a Biblical theme with Scripture teaching or reflections; members' prayer times give greater opportunity to get to know one another, whilst quizzes are primarily for fun and fellowship. All online events are fully accessible to people with hearing loss as we provide a speech-to-text service.
In June 2024 we held our 50th anniversary celebration in person, and it was a great success. We intend to hold more in person gatherings on an annual basis.
Our in house, informative and inspirirational quarterly magazine, 'Hearing Eye', contains the latest Open Ears updates, practical tips for living with hearing loss, puzzles, devotionals, and 'meet the team' articles.
We provide deaf awareness and inclusivity advice, drawing on the personal experience and the expertise of others and their insights. We also offer guidance on suitable equipment for diverse hearing loss needs.
We endeavour to keep up to date with all things hearing loss related, passing on information and signposting to relevant organisations and websites.
