Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons
An article in our local paper told of a record breaking woman, Jeanne Socrates aged 78, who became the oldest person to sail around the world non-stop 25,000 miles single-handedly, for which she was awarded the Amplifon Award for Brave Britons 2020. It was the fourth time she had sailed around the world!
The Amplifon Awards celebrate the achievements of exceptional people and were launched by hearing specialist Amplifon in honour of the company’s founder Major Charles Holland who was decorated for his bravery behind enemy lines in the Second World War. After the war he dedicated his life to providing better hearing for people affected by the conflict and in 1950 this led to the launch of the company Amplifon who are now one of the major hearing aid companies in the world
