Specifically Realised
Last week, I had a ‘first’. My first visit to Center Parcs. Those who get the weekly Open Ears Together* email will already know this. You’ll know about my efforts on a tricycle. You’ll know that various family members pushed me up the hills.
We did spend a lot of time on our bikes, but we also spent a lot of time in the pool. One of the highlights for my niece and me was the wave machine. Periodically, a light would flash across the pool, letting us know that the waves were coming. The light would continue to flash until the waves stopped.
It wasn’t until about day three that I spotted the notice beneath the light. The notice was loud and clear, I am just not always very observant; it takes me a while to get there.
The essence of the notice read:
‘The light will flash for the duration of the waves, to alert deaf and hard of hearing people’
The light was there specifically for me, yet it took me a while before I realised.
In Luke 8, a woman enters a crowd.
She becomes one of the crowd.
She’s there because Jesus is.
So are the rest of the crowd.
She draws close to Jesus.
Others are close to Him, too.
She reaches out, and touches His cloak.
Others are touching it, too.
Jesus turns and looks at her.
He knows.
She’s not simply ‘one of the crowd’ to Him.
She’s one in the crowd.
One He sees.
“Daughter, go in peace…..”
The woman learned that Jesus was not just ‘there’, He was there specifically for her.
It’s a good thing to learn, and to re-learn.
It’s easy to become one of the crowd, isn’t it? The church crowd, the work crowd, the
home crowd….
Let’s remember that Jesus sees us in the crowds.
He is there for us.
Each one of us.
Specifically.
Individually.
The light in the pool was there specifically for me, yet it took me a while before I realised.
Could the same be said of the Light?
Jesus, Light of the World (John 8:12) is there.
Light of your world.
Here specifically for you.
Do you realise?
But now…listen to the LORD who created you…the one who formed you says, “Do
not be afraid…I have called you by name; you are mine.
Isaiah 43:1
Father God,
You created me, see me, know me.
You call me by my name.
Help my heart to listen to Your voice in the crowds,
calling just to me.
Amen
